SHOW is proud to produce Dandemonium – The Dandy Defined, a true labour of love on the part of its author, journalist Robin Dutt. Robin, who we have known for years, has been working on this for over a decade – an exploration of the phenomenon of the Dandy, in which he challenges some misconceptions (it’s not all about peacockery), analyses some history (Beau Brummell, the satirical illustrations of James Gillray) and treats us to his own recollections of Dandies he’s met. This is an incredible list that includes Andy Warhol, Quentin Crisp, Sir Hardy Amies, David Sylvian and AA Gill.
SHOW designed the book with Robin, and conceived it as a beautiful piece of print, cloth-bound and with a slipcase and ribbon marker. Including photographs, and original illustrations by Jessie Bayliss that were specially commissioned for the title, it is published as a limited edition of 1,000.
Home House was kind enough to host the launch party (Robin is a long-standing member) and hundreds of well-wishers turned up, many dressed appropriately. For those of a certain age, it was almost as if the Blitz Club had been revived for one night only.
Dandemonium – The Dandy Defined is £100 and available from shreejinewsagents.com
